Default 5th gear grind 95 ZF

Ok here's the deal definitely a project car bought as a non running condition project so I didn't get a chance to drive it because he put a new clutch in and took for a drive once after installation it worked once next morning no clutch that's how I bought it expecting to pull apart,
What I found was that he ran the brand new clutch line was laying on the catalytic converter, problem solved.
Now next problem, goes through the gears well but 5th gear grind I plan on a transmission oil change just as a unknown maintenance, is there any recommend oil that might smooth out this 5th gear grind

Double clutch shift into and out of 5th. If that makes the grind go away then its probably a syncro. If the fluid is old n worn out changing to fresh fluid may fix the majority of the issue. If the grinding persists try lucas stop slip

I get an occasional grind out of 3rd gear when the car is cold but once it's warmed up it won't do that... I swapped out the transmission fluid with Amsoil Manual Syncromesh Fluid and that helped alot... so it may be worth doing the maintenance and see if that helps. When does the grind happen all the time or when it's cold or hot?

Another vote for Amsoil fluid. I had a "notchy" 2nd gear on my '95 when cold. When I switched to Amsoil it was immediately gone and has not returned.

Good luck and I hope it is something as simple as a fluid change.

Thanks on the Amsoil vote it's worth a try can't make things worse, the transmission already sounds like a cement mixer apparently when he did the clutch the rubber shift boot was destroyed so that's getting picked up today.

Do you remember how many bottles of oil offhand otherwise I will give a look up or a trip to the FSM when I get home

it's 3 bottles i believe to get the job done, ZF Doc says the transmission holds 2.2 quarts.. but that cement mixer sound may be "normal" and a result of swapping out the dual mass flywheel.

Actually it got the dual mass he didn't scimp, I pulled the console top the rubber boot is just as good as gone lm looking at the transmission.
Having trouble finding the Amsoil, Royal purple is falling off the shelf so if I don't find the Amsoil will probably fall back to the Purple it's good stuff to

Ok I'm sold on the Amsoil Syncromesh, finally got a chance to pick up the oil and drain. While draining like always I got some of the old oil on my hands and it felt weird gave it a sniff it was some sort of thinner oil. But didn't seem like syncromesh and had a light Diffental Hypoid smell so I'm guessing a previous owner had topped or with great oil.
So I put 1 1/2 bottles pennsoil Syncromesh I had left over from my manual Tahoe to flush out after running a few minutes on the stands.
Drained filled and road tested, at first it still wasn't great but after a minute or two things went quite 5th gear still grinding but it's only been 4 miles but will probably improve more because the 2 shifts barely grinding
