What are some of the options I have with transmission swaps from my 4+3? the OD is going out on it and I can get a rebuilt kit for it but are there any other manual trans options I can swap in instead?
Remember this #1 rule for doing anything like this... Cubic Speed Costs Cubic Dollars. In short, there ain't no cheap solutions.
The ones I am aware of, the ZF6 from the 1989-96. Great box, OEM replacement, but can be pricy. But used, not bad.
The other option is a TKO500 or 600 5sp conversion kit. These are made by Tremic and are excellent, but really pricy - $3k or more - kits. But are nearly plug/play.
The T56 is viable, but not easy to fit. The c-beam gets complex.
The almost universal answer for manual transmission swaps these days is the TKX. Strong, compact and readily available with plenty of OEM and aftermarket support. I love the ZF6 I swapped into my car, but the day it needs to be rebuilt I'll have to make some tough choices because parts and experienced rebuilders are hard to come by for that transmission. A quality rebuild by someone like ZFdoc will likely cost more than the entire TKX swap from a company like American Powertrain or Silver Sport Transmissions https://www.shiftsst.com/4-3-to-manu..._KXsPxBaLmgBQj
