Transmission Coolers?
After using an Edge Racing 9.5" 2800 stall converter, I found out that around town (when the converter doesn't lockup) if you drive briskly then you can get the tranny temps over 200 without much trouble (I've currently got 2.59 gears so that converter really has to work).
I made a visit to Autozone and snagged the biggest cooler they had (Class "A" towing, whatever that is... I'm guessing around a 24,000 GVW rating). It's a standard tube/fin with 8 passes.
Installation is a breeze and since I'm running in series (through the aftermarket cooler then the radiator) I'd say I've seen a 20deg F drop at low speeds. Once you get up over 50mph and can start moving some air the temps drop off dramatically faster than with stock tranny cooling. Temperatures have been pretty low here lately (under 50) so I haven't been able to see what the tranny temps do with the fans kicked on.
As far as brands go, they're pretty much the same. The only real differences are "stacked plate" .vs "tube and fin". Also be sure to pick up a brand that comes with all the mounting/tubing hardware. It'll save you a trip to the store.
