I know, not everyone's cup of tea, but I am doing some more hacking on my krusty gal. Rec port Chinese high ram on the 6.0 w/ LS3 top end. I still have to cut the hood, but I got everything in its final position. I am thinking she will get to somewhere near 480-490 rwhp n/a. I also took out another 60+lbs or so out of her as well. I haven't scaled here yet, but she was 2840 lbs the last time I weighed her. So, she should be pretty skinny and sit under 2800lbs. So, whatever I might be giving up in mid-range tq ought to be decently covered by the weight reduction.
So far, with the intake install, I have only spent about $475. The intake was $368 including tax from Amazon.
I am hoping to get her out for a spin and some tuning this coming week; just in time for the cooler weather here in NTX. If all goes well I may finally be able hit my long time goal of a 130mph trap. Maybe she will hang with a C8Z from 60-130.
I haven't wrenched like this in a while, I forgot how much fun it is.
Cool, Hope it works out.
I've seen these Chinese Intakes for SBC on Ebay for cheap.
Hood Clearance was the only reason I didn't try one for kicks, But I did get a Chinese
4bble Carb For my Pontiac 1971 400 in my 1980 Grand Prix.
Man, it was like half the weight of the GM Quad I had on it.
It tuned fine, idled fine and sounded great, but, when I took her out for a spin and Hit the Throttle the Engine would Die.
It would start up but still did the same thing.
Hope your intake works out, it's less demanding than a Carb.
Roughed in. I have another hour or two left to clean it up. I should be able to fire it up Tuesday and do some initial tuning, and then the rubber trim should be here Wednesday.
I didn't have to cut anywhere near as much as I thought. The glass removed for the hole was about 2lbs, and I was able to remove another 8lbs from the under side of the hood to lighten her up. Most of the work needed to be done is smoothing out all of the other cuts I made under the hood.

Pretty much done! Now I just have to drive, log, and tune her.
Edit: I did take her out on her first voyage. I kept stopping to make sure there weren't any fuel leaks. I ended up spending more time talking to people that pulled up wanting to look at it than I spent driving it. She is quite a bit more doggish in the mid-range, but pulls like crazy above 5k. I have a lot of tuning to do and feel that I should be able to make her run pretty hard from 4500 on up. I kept banging the 7k limiter because it was getting there quite a bit quicker than before. To take more advantage of it I will likely step the limiter to 7400-7500. Definitely a different feel though, and she is no longer a sleeper. I should be able to get some good seat time in a few days.
I did get to stomp the throttle a little last night after correcting a couple throttle position and throttle cable issues. Holy shnikeys does she pull hard. I had the limiter set at 7k, and the tq pro app was calculating max hp at 7k, up from 6500-6600 with the previous oem ls3 intake setup. She just keeps pulling and pulling and power is continuing to rise. There isn't much loss of mid-range either. I am bumping the rev limit to 7250 for tonight.
