Default Replacement wheels

Good afternoon everyone,
I have an ‘86 base coupe, all stock. I’m sure everyone knows the hassle of buying new tires because of the now impossible to find street tires in the stock size. Can anyone tell me what later year stock wheels will fit and be a popular tire size? Thanks!

A popular upgrade is to find used '88 thru '96 17x9.5 wheels with the 56mm offset and add some 18mm or 3/4" spacers/adapters. Then you can use 275/40 r17 tires. I've been running Toyo RA1 255/50 R16 with the stock wheels on my '84 but someday I want to do this upgrade.

The wider stock wheels, front & rear are 16" x 9.5" with offset: 38mm. ( 255/50-16 )
I have found that C6 Z06 and ZR1 front wheels that are an almost perfect match, and so are tire sizes:
2006+ Z06 front wheels are 18" x 9.5" with offset: +40mm. ( 275/35ZR-18 or 245/40ZR-18 )
2009+ ZR1 front wheels are 19" x 10" with offset: +40mm. ( 285/30ZR-19 )

Good find Joby. I dont think ive seen anyone say this.

The c6 z06 split spokes really do look good with the c4. So do the c6 base but you need spacers for both front and rear on the early cars with those.

if you wanted to, you could drop a 5mm spacer in there and be perfectly safe and untuck the rims a tad.

im a big early c4 guy and appreciate you sharing this.

I agree with both guys' recommendations. The 19s are arguably too big in diameter to look right on a C4, but as long as you get a tire size with the proper diameter, they will function just fine - at that point it's just a matter of aesthetics.

Mathew you recommended to me and my 1994 base that I put 275R35/18 Continental or Michelin all season tires on the 18" 9.5W chrome reproduction wheels I could buy, all the same front and rear. I have received the wheels and the Continental tires are to be here the 14th. I've taken the waiting time to paint my calipers red which should look nice with my 5-spoke chrome wheels and arctic white
exterior and torch red interior. I thank you so much for your advice. I'm almost certain this will work and look good. Doug K.

I've run the Widebody C6/C7 front wheel fitment on the 1986 all the way around... actually the aftermarket wheels that are 11" wide and ET36. The 11" in front needed a small spacer to clear the ARB at full lock. The 10" versions work without that.

BTW I have a set of APEX SM10's if you're nearby, went with some forged wheels and new unusual front offset since.
