I understand that on the Cloyes crank sprocket, the triangle is advanced, the circle straight up, and the square retarded. My question is how much? I thought it was 4 degrees advance or retard but a post on here from 2001 says its 2 degrees either way. My cam has 4 degrees advance built in already from Comp. This would mean my cam is actually 8 degrees advanced if the crank sprocket advances it 4 degrees.
I used pn 9-3145 and it says +/- 2 degrees on the box. I even ran out the the garage to double-check. Very odd since I agree, I read +/- 4 degrees everywhere else.
This really :confused: things now! The 9-3145 is the right set for factory roller cam motors. The Summit site says the crank gear allows +4 degrees either way from center. Does the box say anything about the shapes and what they mean?
OK here is the deal. I called Cloyes and talked to their engineer. The Part number 9-3145 is follows:
Circle = straight up
Triangle = 4 degrees advance at crank which is 2 degrees advanced at the cam
Square = 4 degrees retard at crank which is 2 degrees retard at cam
Now we know where the confusion is. So when talking about degrees advance and retard we are discussing crank degrees right since the degree wheel is mounted on the crank.
He mentioned that he recommends the 9-3145A billet hex-a-just set for much wider control.
