Default Valve covers corrosion ?

Hi everyone !

I've removed my valve covers, I noticed that the paint (not original paint) had blistered.
I wanted to have them powder-coated.
BUT...
By scratching under the blister paint, the aluminum corroded. As if a layer of aluminum peeled off from the foundry layer...
Has anyone seen this before ?

There are several corroded areas, here are the 2 largest areas.

I would like to find other originals, but I’m afraid of buying some with the same problem...
Anyone has an idea ? The visible layer of aluminum peels off the background aluminum...

Appears to be a cheap casting. Likely inexpensive and inferior aftermarket covers. Genuine OEM covers won't do that.

Magnesium castings. And they were not perfect. I sanded, filled low spots, and repainted mine 15 years ago.

GM turned out some crappy covers and just filled the holes with primer and paint. Local power coat shop here told me the majority of their charge for C4 covers was surface prep.
