Default Tubbing

I was considering getting my car "tubbed" so that I can put 12 inch wide wheels in the rear. What exactly is "tubbing?" In other words, what does it entail? How much would it cost to tub a C4? How long would it take?

On a typical car, tubbing can mean many different things. There's full tubs and mini-tubs. But usually it means removing the factory wheel wells (cutting them out) and welding in larger ones. Of course, this usually also means relocating the rear suspension inboard to accomodate this procedure. Can't tell you exactly on a Vette, with fiberglass and independent rear. Nevertheless, it ain't cheap.

Its common to mini-tub on the C5s, but I honestly don't remember anyone doing a mini on a C4 to the best of my knowledge. I'm sure it has to of been done, but I dunno who.

Hmm..since our cars can accomodate 11's in the back, I'm sure you can squeeze up to a 13" without MUCH modifications (although, you may need to remove your inner wheelwell, and most likely get fender flares. Why do you need a larger back tire? Guys usually tub their cars (ie: camaro's, chevelle's, charger's) to get more tire clearance because they CAN'T fit a 10" on. (Because the way the fender comes down over the top of the tire, to make it tuck in theory. I think if you can't get a C4 to hook with a set of 26x11½ slicks...then you'd better try another sport.
