Default 1994 codes,

I have a 1994 convertible, it has a OBD2 connector (16 pin). Not all pin locations has wires. I've tried a couple paperclip hacks to access the codes and nothing works. My connector has, starting top left to right 1,3,5,8, Second row has 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 has wires. Been all over you tube and nothing works. can anyone tell me what wires i need to jump to get the codes to display on my dash. Joe in Bowling Green Ky

Do you have the FSM(Factory/Field Service Manual) for your car? If you do see 8D Section 'Central Control Module' for very detailed directions for checking various codes for all systems using the DIC and the instrument panel display for diagnostics. No jumpers involved.

For paper clip method try pin 4 and pin 12

WVZR: You need a jumper to enter the onboard diagnostics routine. Otherwise, how would the CCM know to enter the diagnostics? You know this..

EDIT/ADD: I see the problem! The OP is reading his ALDL upside down, or it has been reinstalled upside down in its bracket. Look at the face of the connector closely or with a magnifying glass and good lighting. The cavities on the ends, 1, 8, 9, and 16 are numbered. Cavity 1 is supposed to be on the top left, I'm pretty sure his cavity 1 is on the bottom right.

Using the correct cavity numbers, jumper 4 and 12. (Or with it installed upside down, 12 is top row 5 from the left. 4 is bottom row, 5 from the left.)

Great catch, I was a bit confused by what he wrote in the post but didn't ever think of that.

I participate on the forum because it makes me think, and I like solving problems. It didn't make sense that the OP's cavity 4 would not be populated.

I noticed that he had a lot of populated cavities on the bottom row, including '#4' if that r ow was on the top. I wrote 1-16 on a sheet of paper. I circled the cavities as per the OP's description. Then I rotated the paper 180 deg and numbered the cavities as per the FSM actual positions. His numbers correlated exactly with the populated cavities. Problem solved.

I spent about 45 minutes with that post last night. I wonder if he'll come back and report his results?

The OPs reported populated cavities are over the actual populated cavities in circles.
My scribble from last night. The OP's reported populated cavities are in the circles. The actual cavity numbers are above/below the circles.

Here's the '94 DLC pinning w/only the terminals populated in the image notes. There's also 8A sections noted so that you can refer to the FSM for explanations etc. 8D as I suggested is very helpful for initial introduction to DIC diagnostics.

Yes, I knew better than 'no jumping required' but ......
