84 Corvette / Wire Identification
TL;RD (or BLUF if you're DoD), my daughter has an 84 Corvette that we've been wrenching on. It's a 52k mile original car that sat for a long time, and then an Army Ranger got it, and he did all kinds of crazy stuff to it (Italian horns, car alarm, G-force monitor, etc.). So there's a lot of "hacked stuff' in the engine compartment, despite the engine having so little mileage. It's also from New York, and between the time the SOF guy got it, and the original owner, it sat for like 5 years outside in New York. I got it cheap... but it's a fun project. My daughter has torn down everything off the front of the engine, but we're looking at repairing the wiring harnesses, and we're trying to strip out everything that isn't stock. There's a few things I need a little help with... and maybe just your "thoughts" on what's going on.
First One: This is obviously the tach filter, but I'm confused about the multiple connectors. In my past experience, there should only be two. Connected to it was a normal connector on one side, and a simple spade connector on the other side (coming from the distributor). Is this a normal pigtail, or should there only be two plugs here? One of them was not connected. Not sure if it's used as some kind of tach output diagnostics port or something.
Second One: This is right in front of the brake booster, on the driver's side, under the master cyl, and above the steering shaft. It's a combination of positive wires, and they're all using what looks like the O2 sensor connector. I'm not sure really what the point is. I see a fusible link above, which is fine... and up top of the picture I just now notice it looks like a wire was cut, and that may go to the connector at the bottom. Are these connectors stock? Is any of this **** supposed to be here? I would love a picture of what looks normal. I want to put this back to normal.
Third One: This is some kind of resistor that's inline on a ground wire. This is in the headlight bucket area on the driver's side. The steel clamps do look factory GM, I'm just not sure if this is supposed to be here, or if it was added for one of the weird aftermarket things that were put on this car. Please let me know if I should tape this back up, or if I can remove this and re-solder the wires together.
Last question... I've actually never seen these on GM cars before... maybe GM just cuts corners on everything else, but I was pleasantly surprised by these. Anyone know what these are called so I can order more? They go over the flexible plastic wiring conduit, and allow you too basically "clasp" the ends so that they don't open up and the electrical tape doesn't unravel. They're similar to the ones that you use to mount to a wiring harness clip, but have no tree clip on them.
Thanks guys, I appreciate it!
And yes, I do have a service manual... but this isn't easily identified in it, and you guys are so much easier to ask. I ask the manual, and it just sits there, unfortunately. It might be broken.
The in line filter up front is for the stock horn. Don't ask me why it's there, when I replaced the crackling non-working horns I didn't use it and all is well
That's all I can answer from the break room at work
