Default Modifying 92-93 Cars

So, wanting to do some upgrades, headers, full exhaust and maybe some engine modifications, cam, rockers... the regular stuff..... My question is really about the computer tuning. I know the 92-93 computers are sort of unicorns.... What, how and who can do the tuning on these years? Car already has a basic tune on it from the previous owner... If I added headers and exhaust, with high flow converters, will it need programing for that since it has a basic tune already? Theres no place near me for dyno tunes. Do I have other options? Should I just sell this 92 and get a later 94-96 car? LOL...

I have a 93 so same same. I have afr heads p and p, headers, 3:73 gears cam and dana 44. My cars best run was 12.2 @ 115. So mods are sure worth it.

This 93 LT-1 got about the same mods no EGR open exhaust 1.6 rockers ported heads 307 rear Etc. No tuner here, I used PCN of NC. runs great been using them for years, do you need one??? The tune pepped up my 93 BIG time no codes .. My 2 cents ..

92-93 are simple to modify and easy to learn to tune

Tunercat (to tune, flash a Moates ostrich or burn a chip) and Datacat to datalog off the ALDL under the dash.

You can even install 2 bar or 3 bar (im using) MAP sensors for boosted conditions if you add a turbo or S/C

can install a wideband afr bung and monitor wideband afr, alongside other engine operating info, by logging its 0-5v output thru the a/c pressure sender wire

plug in laptop and go!

Im running 120 lb/hr inj on e85 and it idles fine at high quality even with a 242/254 cam.
(people told me the speed density and batch fire setup wouldnt work with inj that big. They lied.)

Now. i do run open loop bc of the cam overlap.
so perhaps this is an area where modern ECM’s can improve things. (Though it seems like you give up ASR/traction control when going to a modern ECM.)

I also wish i could hook in an ethanol % sensor that would automatically modify the fuel and spark maps (on the fly) if i switched between those fuels.
(Currently, i monitor my % ethanol with an in cabin readout, and have to reflash a tune if i get a weird tank.)

I get 15 highway mpg (remember im on e85, 315/35r17 ET street R’s, and 800 hp)
