Re: Vortex Ram Air Induction System (Lexdog)
Waste of money. Your K&N already flows enough for your TPI. Look through the sigs of other forum members with fast cars and you'll notice very few of them have any kind of cold air intake system. Most just have cut lid and K&N.
I have it on my car, I like it, I think it helps the transient throttle response. I'll have the numbers of my car this spring when I redyno it. I don't want to step on toes, but anything that allows more air, and "colder" then it has to have a parametric gain. I just read an article in corvette lifestyles the september 2002 issue on page 34 vortex is listed as a "mod" to increase HP based upon cat back system installation, along with gears, afpr, throttle body. So I'll go where national publications advise as well as many others on the forum. Do some research you'll see.

Re: Vortex Ram Air Induction System (kittmaster)
I'm not saying it won't do anything, I just don't think enough to justify $300, that's all. If you're searching for every .1 you can find, maybe. But for street driving, there are better ways to spend it.

Keep in mind magazines make their living with ad revenue. Take it with a grain of salt.
It works slightly, helps the engine over 80mph or in the last 1/8mi of the 1/4mi.
But you still dont get much gain, not over a K&N open lid.

Sounds like you quoted me:D
I have timeslips from the track showing the results. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, buy it, but don't buy it from Mid America, get it here on the forum for about $40 less.
It's a nice looking piece, but for the minimal gain, don't spend it if you don't have the $$$ to burn.
I say this openly and honestly because I'm friends with the guy who developed it. We challenged him 4 years ago and he accepted. The result was a small gain like Vader said.
When I find the timeslips, I'll post them and you can determine whether or not the gain is worth it.
Here's a nice comprimise. Make your own Forced Induction system using a K+N filter, that way you have the flow and cost of a K+N but not the expense of a Vortex. Just an idea.
