Default Rust on engine block

I'm hooking up my reciently rebuilt engine and rust is coming through the paint.
What should I do?
I wish I knew that this would or even might have happen. I would have painted it with some sort of rust inhibitor prior to putting it back in.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!!!

You could wire brush the area and paint it with some enamel primer if you want. Its deep down in there, nobody will see it.

That's it, cast iron rusts, what you probably did was to paint the engine with some cheap paint you bought at the auto parts, you need to get some anti-rust paint.

Actually no, this is the way that it came back from the rebuilder...Jaspers.
It looked fine for a month or so prior to me putting it into the car.
I spoke with the tech at Jaspers, and he told me that it was a water based paint. Like it was no big deal. If it was him, he would use "mineral spirits" to rub off the rust and paint over it.
I'm just having a hard time understanding why they didn't spend another $5.00 or less and do a better job(where did pride go in one's work?).
Again, if I'd known that they had done this I would have painted the engine prior to putting it in.
I ended up buying a flex shaft and a small wire brush to get the rust off. First I had to remove both the exaust manifolds. I am almost done tapeing it off. I selected a heat resisant paint, alumiun in color in case of overspray.
Is it common to have rust on the engine block and to what degree?
I understand that some folks say that if the block is painted that it doesn't release as much heat. Does it trap that much heat?

To get rid of and stop rust you need to put a wire brush on a grinder and and sand off the rust and then put a rust preventive hi temp paint on it. I have no idea why Jasper's would have used a water based paint for iron unless they are repainting and already painted surface. Most water based paints are not for metal and only a few will stick to an oil based paint.

Big K,

I just rebuild my engine and it was rusty from the vat at the machine shop. I used the spray (krylon, rusoleum ect.) on rust converter and top coated it with the glossy black. It looks great and will stay on.

Knock off the loose stuff and spray it on. It turns the rust into a black primer looking stuff. I've used it on a bunch of different stuff and it works great. It won't work on hi-temp stuff though. (I responded to your exhaust manifold question).

Buck.
