Default JBA red spark plug wires

Have been searching the forum trying to learn about JBA spark plug wires. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has fitted these to your C4? These wires have no lettering on them. The shop that replaced the wires for the p.o. of my LT4 replaced them with black wires. I'd like to have red wires back on the car. Thanks

$160 at Advance Auto >>> https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...QaAgC9EALw_wcB

Only $65 on Ebay, seems like drastic price difference to good to be true...??? https://www.ebay.com/itm/186215289080

I have been looking for replacement wires for my LT4 and haven’t found a set with the lettering/plug number yet. I am interested in what our members think are good replacement wires are that are red and maybe lettered.

Having already been searching the forum for "which red wire" the names MSD, Taylor come up in frequent discussion. Both are larger than factory 7 mm, so fitment requires some additional extra effort. I only found one mention on the forum about the JBA which i had found on an internet search which have no lettering.

Thanks Steve. I have seen those too, but as you said, they are bigger in diameter and don’t fit the stock holders. I wish somebody made a set of “stock” replacements.

Understood. the only 7 mm option i found is to buy bulk which you've likely already found in your searching. i don't see it on their website, but it's on ebay >>> https://tonsperformance.com/products...47476049379643

There's also print free bulk 8 mmm by Tons >>> https://tonsperformance.com/products...47476049379643

@powerplaytwo I bought the JBA 8 mm red wires and am pleased. They are individually numbered and are the exact lengths as the black AC Delco wires. They fit perfectly in the looms without modifying anything. The only snafu is the coil wire, the i.d. of the 90' elbow is simply not large enough diameter to slip over the coil terminal/housing.The shop that switched out the original red wires for the black AC's for the previous owner left the original red coil wire, so i used it. Will go to AZ tomorrow and see if they have a larger i.d. 90' terminal for the JBA coil wire. Installed JBA's on the passenger side, all straight forward. Saved the fun side for the project's final curtain. Attached are pics of the JBA wires, they have positive reviews on the internet. #8 and #6 on the middle and rear looms need to be reversed so that twist isn't there as seen in front of the middle loom, Grrr. Still need to see if AZ has a cover for the coil end of coil wire so i can have all wires 8 mm.

Finished the driver's side today. The #7 wire was longer than it needed to be, otherwise the other three were the necessary length. The 8 mm wires fit the looms without difficulty. Clipping shut the looms were no problem. Long needle nose pliers and a ring plier made the job easier, especially for making the double-click on #5 and #3. The long needle nose and a long screwdriver helped me push the opti ends of wires one at a time through the eye of the needle and guide them through the lower opening for the wires to travel to the opti. The ASR was the only thing i moved out of the way. Also removed the middle and rear inner fender shrouds. Wires on both sides are a nice distance from exhaust manifold, i did not use any heat protector sleeves, althouh i have some Thero Armour silicone coated fiberglass sleeving on order. The shop that had replaced the red for black wires hadn't used sleeves either, although i would think the factory fitted sleeves... Actually took about the same time as passenger side, around 7 hours. Patience, persistence and perseverence, lots of pictures are key. Really not that difficult, just takes time. Feels good to have red like original wires instead of black.

Looks great! I can attest doing plugs on an LTx is a game of patience, but it sure does pay off in the end.

When doing plugs 6 and 8, I found it was easier to stand on the driver's side of the car and lay across the top of the intake manifold 😂 felt I had some better leverage that way both for getting the old boots off and installing the new ones.

Thanks for the tip on 6 and 8!

I know when I did the plugs on my ‘96 it took me longer to do 8 than just about the total time to do all the other plugs. I didn’t try it from underneath which I have read may be easier. I tried from the top, passengers side. I hope I never have to do it again.

@powerplaytwo Wow, I can't imagine doing a wire change only from the top, that would be very challenging!🤯 Going in from the bottom gives direct access to driver's side opti, albeit limited space for top two wires installed be feel and not much ability to apply full strength to push wire home for the double click. I know some remove the serpentine, ac compressor to thread the 4 wires through the eye of the needle. For me, getting the wires fitted is an experiment of sorts, finding the best tool, and positioning my self effectively in the most advantageous position to plug the wires into the opti. On a creeper, under the car, feet facing forward, using my left hand worked best.

Great information. Thanks for sharing, as now with your information, I will be trying to do as well as you did. I still have original wires, but I know I will have to do this.
