1989, Auto. Short story, my mufflers were toast so naturally going to redo it all. Looking for any sound bytes or videos of your exhaust set up and what the build is! Have read good things about exotic muscle long tubes, will be going that route. Everything else is in question. Not wanting chop or a deep growl idle but instead a quiet idle and a race car at WOT. I don't NEED to pass emissions.
Long story: Had some weird metal popping coming from my exhaust, mostly heard when going over bumps. Turns out the exhaust hanger that is just behind the main cat had torn and the sag caused my mufflers to crack, popping coming from the aluminum when flexing. While i'm still fighting the slip ons that go over the Y pipe, I was able to just tear off the mufflers .
Have you considered manually operated cut outs? My Corvette shares the garage with a 1978 Firebird Formula with a set of these. With a flip of a switch electric motors open a valve inside a "Y" pipe that redirects the exhaust from the mufflers to a short pipe with a turn down. It has a 383 stroker with a fairly good build so the switch to open header sound will get the attention of everyone around (local law enforcement also so use with care)

Yeah, valved mufflers or cutouts would provide the largest contrast in sound volume. Some like Corsa mufflers but they have a bit louder "floor". The secret is sound cancellation (to soften low rpm harmonics. This can also be done with Helmholtz resonators. If you don't need super loud at WOT, you might like my first exhaust mod which was to replace stock mufflers with targas. Others like chambered pipe or chambered mufflers -- which (though decent sounding) create turbulence and rob HP. MOSTLY, choosing exhaust is a total exercise in personal preference. TONS of examples on youtube.
FWIW, 100Hz (give/take is the range were resonance can be amplified by cabin acoustics and end up sounding louder (akin to a ported woofer). Hint: This is usually hated and overbearing.

Sounds exactly like me. I have Walker Quiet Flows on my Camaro.
It doesn't sound stock... has just enough noise to sound like a muscle car. But its very pleasant to drive around in when simply causing. Extremely mellow idle which does almost sound stock...which i like since I chose the cam for my 383 erring on the side of a mellow idle. My wife can ride along with me and we can talk at regular volume.
But when you get into the throttle you get the muscle car sound. Again, not anywhere near obnoxious, just a little more than stock... enough to remind me that it is still a muscle car.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
