Default VATS not working?

If it is not working, what are the symptoms?
Will it try to start, ie,,,cranks, but does not start? If so, what is being supressed, gas or spark?
Or will it not even crank?

If the VATS works on the same principle as Pass-Key (later C4s), without a proper module in the ignition key, the starter relay and fuel pump are not activated.

VATS detects if the proper value pellet is on the ignition key and if it is not, then the start enable relay will not close and the starter will not crank. Also, the injectors will not be pulsed by the ECM.

:iagree:
And you should have a code stored for vats fail. Unless only the ground on side to the starter relay enable failed....

Thanks, I always wondered how that worked. In that case, I have never had that problem, but the problem I have now is it won't start, it does crank. I come home for lunch, an hour later it won't start.
No spark and no gas, but the starter does engage.
