Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I am new to owning a corvette as well. I know I bought the worst year for the corvette with the Crossfire Injection system. Luckily for me though I got the car for a hell of a deal which I couldn't resist. I spent days fixing it up at the previous owners house and eventually got it work which I am grateful for since it had been turned on and off but left sitting since 2001. Now to problems and I hope yall could help me with this part. There are quite the bit of electrical problems on this car. The battery terminal doesn't power the car it only sends power to the starter ONLY. So I took that info and jerry rigged it to fire for the moment but putting a jumper cable to the alternator positive which gave the car power. I was able to enjoy turning my car on and off about 5 times before something happened. I had left the car running and was recording a video of it idling actually and it chops pretty nicely and all of a sudden the car just shut off. I thought I had run out of gas and left for the day. The next day I come back and hook up my jumper cables to the positive of the alternator and now all of a sudden there is no power at all to the car. So I was not actually out of gas, the wiring from the alternator to where ever it goes probably burnt out. Now my question to yall is what do you think is the problem? Im taking wild guesses because I am not a chevy guy and this is my first every chevy. The wiring is a lot different than a ford thats for sure. I tried looking for alternator fuses but didn't find anything of that sort. So where exactly should I start looking to find this all of a sudden power loss. Thanks for everyone's help! I will be going back out to the car on Monday to attempt to fix it so all the suggestions made in this thread will be tried on monday. My goal eventually is to get the car road worthy and with your guys' help I think we can make it come true.
I would check the fusible links first to make sure none are blown. Then use a test light or multimeter to see where power stops between the battery and the rest of the car. Also make sure all of the grounds are clean and tight.
Where are the fusible links located? and do you have a wiring diagram from the alternator to the fuse box? Where are the grounds located as well? I am using a jumper cable directly to the block to ground already.
