About 6 months ago I dropped the transmission pan and drained the fluid. I was trying to trace a driveline problem. Fluid was clean so I put the pan back up but haven’t filled the transmission fluid because I was doing other work and wasn’t driving it for a while.
Today I went to drop the pan to put a new filter in and I find the pan is full again. Is this normal? I’m thinking it came from the upper parts of the transmission or even the torque converter since it’s just been sitting with an empty pan and gravity. Just wanted a more knowledgeable reassurance at this point.
Can I just fill the transmission thru the dipstick with the same amount that’s drained?
Start with the amount you removed allowing also for the probably 1/2 a pan more that dripped from Converter and wet areas, once you have some in it check regularly and top off as the temperature rises.
