Just bought a 1984 vette and have done some work to it and got it running.
Ive been having some issues with it flooding while trying to start.
What its doing:
While cranking the injectors spray what seems like a normal amount of fuel, but after the car starts the injectors seem to just go full blast till the engine warms up.
Ive replaced the CTS on the front of the engine(was told that is usually the culprit), both IAC valves, TPS sensor, intake manifold gaskets, injector rebuild kit.
Is this normal for these cars? Seems like way to much fuel for way too long.
It is normal while in open loop it will run rich until the CTS reaches warmup temp when it will properly lean out fuel delivery. While I guess it could be the CTS you installed is bad maybe someone else can stop by and give you other possibilities.
New IAC's need to be "reset" by warming up and driving at least 30-35 mph. I went even further when I replaced them on my '84 by disconnecting them and driving with the high idle for a few minutes and making sure I got up to the 35 mph, then reconnecting the IAC's and doing the same thing again. Everything worked great after that. As for the CTS this is the one I installed recently (I was getting code 15). It has the newer style connector and the right pigtail to replace the original.
Most likely its the CTS unless you installed the newer updated sensor and connecter. There was a TSB on it way back and was a common repair on early GM tbi cars. Part #Wells 5S1474 kit. Toss the scotch locks.
Alright, thanks yall!
Ill be taking it for a drive and seeing if i can find a way to test the CTS, might just replace it. It does have the later 2 pin CTS.
