will the stealth ram mate up to those heads?
I thought the consensus was the stealth ram didn't work with the 1206 gasket. I bet Grumpy would be able to answer that.
That would be a fine ride. How much did the motor cost? What is the expected MPG and what do you estimate it will run the 1/4 in?
The engine itself, without the intake, exhaust, and miscellaneous, is costing $8,000 give or take a few hundred. As far as the mpg, I'm just guessing around 18 or 19 cruising without my foot in it. :lolg: I'm spec'ing the cam to make it more driveable; sort like, how would the factory build a 427 on the extreme side? I don't want it so radical that it doesn't come on until 4000rpm. If the chip is tuned in right, the mpg shouldn't suffer to bad.
Quarter mile time? The target hp is 500-525 so that should be 12's, I'd think.

Well, before I buy the intake, I'll talk to my engine builder about that. We had a general discussion about that the other day and his comment was it's OK to go from a smaller runner into a larger runner, you just never want to go the other way. Assuming the only issue to be the runners on the Stealtram intake are smaller than the ports in the heads, then that's OK. The Stealthram will still flow huge quantities and the intake/head interface won't be a restriction. Again, I'll talk it over with Jeff, my engine builder, before I buy the intake.
How about the cam profile - for those of you who've already built engines like this, do you have a really strong opinion? Keep in mind I'm not going for the last hp I can get; I want it to idle. :)
Nice set up, Dave. That is fairly similar to an engine a buddy of mine bought. We are working on some final details, now. We still need an EFI set up for it. His came with a clutch/flywheel, that he won't be using. If you have any interest, I'll contact him for you. Good luck, and...
Yea, I'm interested. The flywheel is on my list of final details. The 1990 flywheel/clutch is a one year only queer deal or so I've been told. I need a flywheel that is like 0.1" less thick than a "normal" flywheel, to work with my clutch slave cylinder. And, it needs to work with the older style 2-piece block and crank I'm using. Is that what your buddy has? If so, I'm interested. Get me PNs etc. My rule of thumb is to pay a little over half of what it'd cost to buy new when I'm buying used parts. Is that in the ballpark?
Nice project you have going there...if it does not get into the 11's then it would just be from lack of traction. I think a lot of the LPE 383's with 440 hp do 12.0 +/- a few tenths with slicks. Keep us updated with lots of pics!!
Hey, sure thing. I've got a real nice digital camera and I'll document the project. I've got a handful of little details to iron out and then it's engine swap time. When time comes to actually pull the L98 out and start the real work I'll probably setup a page with pic's showing progress and whatever the little challenges are along the way. :)
This is a NEW clutch. It came on the back of the engine he bought. It is an 11" Centerforce Dual Friction clutch. It has obviously been mounted. I helped him take it off. The flywheel is for a two piece style crank. It has a paper tag on the back stating that it "meets SFI Spec 1.1". That tag also says, "A015735". Is that a part number? Serial number? That sucker is heavy. I don't have any scale, but I'll bet it's 30 pounds or more. Just what a guy needs to get out of the hole with an over cammed engine. It has been sitting and has surface rust on the OD and the back. There IS light surface rust over a portion of the friction surface. The disc has these two numbers inked on to the hub area: "167385" and "030496-2037". The pressure plate assy is cast with: "VALEO" and "382109". I will try to get any additional info you may need. It was purchased to go into an'88. He asked me to tell him what you thought it was worth.

I'm definitely interested. In the mean time, an auction came up on ebay and I'm bidding on it so I can't get two deals going at the same time. That auction ends Thursday around 3pm Central. Check back with me in about 4 days, or I'll try to remember to get back with you if I don't win the auction.
