Does anybody know what this box is under the driver side kick panel when I took off the panel it kind of just fell out and wasn't mounted so it kind of feels out of place. It has like two connectors plugged into it and a red light red and gray wire running into the engine bay that go behind the distributor but I kind of lose track of them there.
Keep trying to figure out where it ends under the hood, if it didn't leave the cabin I would have thought a VATs bypass with a dial in value.
So that leaves a hidden Radar detector or an alarm, so find the end and what it's attached to

I think it is an add-on (after market) shock sensor for the factory alarm. (If it is connected to the lt blue wire at the door jamb pin switch, then that is definitely what it is.) The intent is to add shock protection to the stock alarm system that only responds to a door or the hatch opening. The potentiometer is to adjust the sensitivity. It looks old, as in it may have been there since the OP's 86 was near new. Cheers.
After looking at how it's connected more there's two sets of wires going into the engine bay the red and gray one which I kind of lose track behind the distributor and then another set that go directly to the speed controller it's connected to a few other wires under the steering wheel spliced in with those blue clips things
Based on the new info, I wonder if it is a Cruise Control controller that was installed to restore cruise control operation when the cruise control portion of the Instrument Cluster died? The wires "that disappear behind the distributor" may go down to a pick-up on the driveshaft for road speed input. The wires that go to the cruise servo are self-explanatory. The "wires under the steering wheel" are probably to the Cruise Control stalk switches.
In the Atari Dash C4 (1984-1989) the Cruise Control processor is incorporated into the cluster electronics. There are 2 power transistors that are known to fail and cause loss of cruise control. Batee has replacement transistors and info on his site. If the cruise control works and is desirable to you to have, leave it there.
Interesting. I learn something every day. Thanks for the follow-up.
