I have bad news I found a hole in the undercarige of my car. It is on the front pass. side. It is in the fiberglass just behind the metal plate. The hole is all the way through to where you can stick you finger through the interior carpet. I do have pics I just have to find them and post them. But could you guys help me find a way to repair this. :cry
I'm assuming you're talking about broken fiberglass, not a drill hole....
When I did mine, I removed the damaged fiberglass with a dremel-type tool until I had nothing but clean edges all around the hole. You then need to grind out a "step" in the fiberglass floorpan on both the inside and outside so that you can lay the new cloth in smooth. I then laid some thin wire mesh down on the inside to provide strength, both while curing and afterwards, and then laid some fine mesh fiberglass cloth on the inside of the car first. Once that has set up, I did the same on the underside (there's nothing like working with glass on the underside of something, especially while laying on your back... :skep: ) Once it all sets up nice and hard, you can sand it down and paint it, put undercoating on it, etc, etc.
It's holding up just fine! Remember, the floorpan from the back side of the shifter forward is fiberglass matte. Fiberglass cloth tends to be stronger than the matte, and I used cloth.
You can get a fiberglass repair kit at most auto parts stores (like Pep Boys). It has the fiberglass cloth, resin, hardener, spreader tool, etc. I repaired a small crack on my floorpan that way, seems to hold up fine.
Sorry I am sill learning about this stuff. But what do you mean by a "step".
When you cut the floorpan, you'll have a uniform cross section of fiberglass. What you need to do to cut the step is grind a little bit on the top and the bottom of the edges around the hole (about 1/2-1" wide will work) where you're making that section of the section thinner....you literally have what looks like a step in the fiberglass. When you lay the new stuff in, it fills the step back up to flush with the original lines of the fiberglass.
