Default Transmission Leak

I noticed some leakage on the garage floor from my 1994 C4 e3quipped with the 6-speed manual transmission. I cannot see where it is coming from, although it seems to be farther back than expected. Any ideas?

The drip is more or less located 1 foot forward of the rear wheel well and one foot in from the rocker panel.

With that info, im going to guess it is actually coming from the power steering system. That is often pink... some folks use trans fluid as pw steering fluid. I guess its cheaper??

This is just a random thought and probably impossible to do but have you considered jacking the car up and looking?

Having recently gone through this on my 92 6-speed, by the description of the location he has a leaking VSS and / or a leaking rear output seal. Both of these locations were leaking on my 100k mile car. The exhaust obscures getting a good visual on the actual location. To verify the location of the leaks on my trans I cleaned the residue and area with brake cleaner and compressed air. Then went for a 15 minute drive and looked again. The VSS was the obvious source. I fixed that one, the VSS remained dry, but it continued to leak in the same area. I did the output seal. After a few hundred miles, I looked again, and it is dry back there. It takes time to verify and repair, and may not be accomplished in one session.

These are the possibilities for trans leaks near the rear of the transmission:
> The VSS itself which can be solved with the addition of a common seal for a cable driven speedo adapter for a TH400 or 4L60.
> The outer o-ring seal for the VSS.
> And the output seal which requires removal of the driveshaft which requires removal of the exhaust, and either moving the c-beam aside or bending some sheet metal for clearance.

There are discussions and pictures in the "What did you do to your C4 today?" thread within the last 4-6 weeks on both of these repairs with P/N for the VSS seal courtesy of WVZR. Go to the end of thread and scroll backwards. Won't be tough to find.

I gotta stop reading threads on my phone - late at night.
I understand the location better today. Fluid from the PS assy wouldn't be dripping back that far.
As you were....

Put some UV dye in the trans fluid, run it a little bit and shine the UV light on it to follow the leak back to its source.
