Default C4 Diff repair options

I have a 1993 corvette with the 6-speed manual and a 3.45 Dana 44 rear end. The differential is definitely toast (apparently it had been low on fluid for a long time in the past), I knew it was leaking but not the damage. So, I'm assuming based on the extremely loud whine and clicking from stops that I'll need to replace it because I called around and nobody can rebuild them is what I've been told. What's the best option to repair/replace them? I am somewhat on a budget and would like for this to get done fairly soon and I was searching for used or rebuilt units, but I don't know how much I trust ZIP or other ship for rebuild services. Any help would be amazing thank you.

Edit: I'm from Terre Haute Indiana if that helps so if anyone knows any reputable shops near me or salvage yards that have C4's let me know!

Well assuming the diff will need all new bearings, new ring & pinion, new fiction clutches for the limited slip: all parts needed for normal rebuild. I don't think you're looking at the right shop to get it repaired/rebuilt. Setting up ring and pinion gears can be time consuming part, so most everyday shops won't touch that work. Look for a shop that specializes in off-road, 4X4, Jeep modifications. Maybe a 4X4 club, nearby? They are usually quite familiar with gear swaps. The other option would be to contact one of the Corvette recyclers, which might be cheaper in the long run.

Id look at Mirrock Corvettes or Dinos, or Just Corvettes for used ones....

I have a 93 and only would take it to a corvette shop for this type of work and get a firm written estimate.

Hi,
same thing here. You simply don´t get parts. Forget about Jeep and Mopar Dana 44 parts, they don´t fit.

Em-racings Gladiator Dana 44 is the only way to go at the moment. I ordered one 12 days ago.

Yeah, I've checked just about everywhere I can and no luck. It seems finding a Dana 44 with the 3.45 gears is more than a challenge and because I live in the middle of nowhere Indiana and I can't seem to find anyone willing to work on it that is within a 1.5 hr trip. I've checked many used corvette part sites and nothing (obviously I'm still searching), but if I could find one I can definitely do a differential replacement myself but a rebuild is definitely not in my skill set.

Edit: Also, that Em-racing one you mentioned looks great, but I would like to find a more cost-effective solution if I can. I need some money left for the engine swap because I'm already in too deep into that part wise to not do it.

If I needed and mine was in the condition you mention I might consider 'used' and shopping local. If a yard near you has one you could potentially negotiate.

I would do car-part.com and see what is near you. May post also in the parts for sale wanted to buy for someone maybe close that's parting a car that might have a satisfactory rear. You don't mention 'location' either and that certainly matters.

Is ZIP corvette's rebuilt differential service any good? If not is there any ship to rebuild services that are sufficient? I'm assuming those types of services are in general not very trustworthy I just haven't heard much on confirming if they are good or bad.

ZIP did my d36 3.07 back in 2008. No issues at all. But again that was in 2008. I have a d44 i want gone through and my machinist has the tools and experience to do it which was a nice suprise.

Find a Jeep/4X4 shop as mentioned above. Take your diff to them and tell them its from a C4 vette with the HD Dana 44.

Default Ikerds

Ikerds is the rebuild supplier for many of the Corvette houses; you can avoid the markups and go direct, and they do good work. Finally, they are located in Bedford IN and so you can avoid shipping fees!

Beauty. I never said getting Jeep parts. I said off-road shops are more adept at differential work. The Corvette DANA 44 HD is different than an common D44, but YES Gen One Vipers used the IDENTICAL differential. School yourself or just throw your money around.
