I am about to buy some hooker headers and was wondering which way I should go. I am going to buy the Y pipe as well...so that pretty much means no cats. Sohow is the Y pipe gunna hook up? Will I have to get rid of the Main Cat? I already am running elims...and I dont want it to be way to loud. What should I do? Any advice?
That's the exact set-up I have, TPIS Longtubes including their y-pipe and Eliminators. They sound bad azz. (albeit on an L98)
TPIS headers are $. $750 coated and comes with the y-pipe. The apeal to me was having a header/y-pipe system that is a direct bolt on to the stock cat. No cutting, bending, trimming, welding, crying, swearing of any sort. I was willing to pay the extra $200 or so for this conveinence. Did it myself in the garage with the front of the car on ramps and the rear on jackstands
what an LT1 you don't get the y-pipe only the headers. From the end of the headers, get a muffler shop to fab up a pipe that connects to the factory pipe on each side in front on the resonator. This is what I recall from memory anyways.
I was actually looking at the C4 Long Tube headers. Wil they fit the LT1?
LT1/4's do not have a Y-pipe, therefore you will not get one when you order long tube headers for your car. You cannot use your factory cats with long tube headers, you would need to buy a set of bullet cats from Random Tech, or Catco then have an exhaust shop weld the bullet cats to your headers and cat-back system.
You can't run long tubes with bullet cats and an automatic on your LT equipped C4. Doesn't fit because there isn't enough room. You have to get shorties to be emissions compliant or go catless.
So I cant get Y pipe for my car? I would instead have to run true duals? I have been reading that Bullets tend to cause a heat problem with an A4. Does anyone have pics of a install of headers with LT1 install?
Nope, looks like you're gonna be cat-less if you go with the long tubes! As mentioned above, you'll have to have an exhaust shop fab up some pipes that go from the collectors to the resonator (one for each collector).
I have the TPiS long tubes in the basement (getting ready to do this job in the spring). I'm thinking about ditching the PE resonator and getting a Dr. Gas X-Pipe in it's place... :)

I'm not aware of anybody making a Y pipe for the LT cars, mostly because it doesn't apply. If you aren't worried about emissions issues then just install the long tubes and then have a custom exh welded up to the mufflers of your choice. The resonator becomes an option as well.

It can be done, however you have to place the cats pretty far back, close to the resonator and sometimes this doesn't allow then to warm up completely to be fully effective...but it's better than nothing.
