Re: window stopped working yesterday... (85superram)
I had the same problem about 1 year ago. I took the door panel off and saw the problem. The motor in the 84-86 have a ribbon that feeds through the motor all the way up to the window support bracket. I found that the ribbon that connected to the window support bracket broke, thus the motor could not push or pull the window down. You can buy the ribbon via Eckler's or do what I did, I upgraded to a 96 style. :auto:

:iagree:
It's the ribbon. I would upgrade to newer style without the ribbon. My first replacement lasted less than a month before it broke. Upgraded to newer style and love it. No ribbon to break and as a bonus the window goes up and down MUCH faster than before.

I agree. They cost about $200-$250 for each window(parts only) and another $150-$200 in labor for each window, but boy are they fast. If you plan on keeping the car, it is a great investment for the future. :iagree:
Re: window stopped working yesterday... (85superram)
$25 sure sounds much better, but just wait until you try to put that ribbon back in, you might need????? :smash: , yeah that will work, and you might go through a little :banghead: , yeah, yeah and not last , you will surely get to this point :cry :cry :cry :cry .

Re: window stopped working yesterday... (85superram)
ouch, I like 25 bucks better than 200
I thought so too until I spent my 2nd Saturday in a month tearing the door apart after replacement broke. I probably had the one in a million that was defective, but if the pass. side goes, I won't even consider a ribbon. Definitely upgrade
