Need some advice about 1:6 roller rockers.I have a 92 LT1 and I would like to put RR on but it has guide plates.I was told not to use self aligning rockers if you have guide plates. That rules out the Crane LT4 RR,has anybody used cheaper models with good results.(energizer, proform, ect)
...I have a 92 LT1 and I would like to put RR on but it has guide plates...
If it's factory stock, those aren't true guide plates, they're just "convenience" pushrod holders. The stock stamped rockers are self aligning. If someone replaced those with true guide plates, then disregard what I just said.
I have a 92 LT-1 and I installed the Crane self-aligning-narrow body 1.5 ratio aluminum rocker arm set Part # 10751-16 and hardened pushrods Part # 10621-16. The only thing you have to do that , if you want to keep the original valve covers, is grind off the oil drip tangs on the inside of the covers. This makes room for the rocker arms. The engine runs much better. I installed them just for reduced friction in the valve train.

When I first read this post it scared the crap out of me! I just finished this particular exercise on my L98, I didn't even think twice about the faux guide plates. I just went out in the garage and looked at the stock stamped rockers that came off the car, sure enough, they are self aligning.
I guess I am OK, stamped self aligning came off, roller self aligning went back on.
HMMM!!! mine did not have guide plates..I am running crane 1.6s self aligning with no problems..... If you up the ratio you will need to change the springs our ...crane part# 10308
If you up the ratio you will need to change the springs our ...crane part# 10308
Just a warning, I had clearance issues with the Crane 1.6's and the 10308 springs (trunion to retainer), I've heard it's a hit or miss thing. Also, the 10308 springs won't fit the stock locators, so Crane's solution is to supply shims with too big of an inside diameter that will "hula hoop" around the guide. Neither me nor several machine shops could find shims of the proper dimensions, no one makes them, so you have to either use Crane's solution or work something else out.
I was told by Comp Cams tech could'nt use 1.6 RR with my stock cam
(piston to valve clearence). I was all ready to slap those bad boys on,
but now I'am not sure. I knew about the valve cover tabs & springs but I was'nt ready to hear that. Well just set back awile and do some more research. :seeya
Yea, :skep: is right . I got a post into Jeff Kopp on his fourm, I will find out what's up, then just buy the GM RRs from him. That Comp. guy messed up
I was ready to order the Pro Mags, oh well. :seeya
