I have not heard of many C4 guys putting on x-pipes. Is there any down side or are most of you guys too old and don't like the noise? Seriously, is there any HP to be gained from doing this on a LT1 or is this just something to make it more acusitically pleasing? Thanks for your input. :chevy
I've got a stock exhaust off a '93 that I'm modifying. I'm gonna put it on my LT4. It's gonna have an X-pipe. :yesnod: Then, some sort of muffler...not sure about that yet...
Do a search on X-pipe, there have been quite a few of us "old guys" installing them lately, some good posts/threads also...seem to be good for a few HP & some low end torque, just got my headers back from a recoat at Jet-Hot tonight I plan to finish hooking my Dr Gas X pipe up this weekend then its off to the dyno for a few tests...
My archive search only shows C4 guys wanting them, and C5 guys discussing them. The majority of the C5 guys are saying there is not a big HP gain from an x-pipe. Anybody have any experience with one on a C4? :auto:

Re: Why not an X- pipe? (95Redsled)
I had a Dr. Gas e-pipe in my Nova (ran 11.30s) and it quited the car down with 3-inch flowmaster mufflers, but the exhaust and an air cleaner picked the car up almost a full tenth and 2-3 mph in the quarter. I do not have one on my vette at this time, but do beleive in them.
My question is will the help much on an LT-4 car since they already have a factory h-pipe. I know the x is supposedly better then the h, but how much gain would I expect?
I've got Corsas on my 94 A4 .... the X-pipe is built in just before the center muffler section which is essentially straight thru. Don't know whether it's there for power, sound, or controlling resonance but this much I know .... at normal RPMs the cabin is nice & quiet w/no resonance (the wife loves it) and at WOT the exhaust note is definitely on the angry side (and then I have the ear to ear grin).
I'm not real sure about the quieting down part because I had my Dr Gas X-Pipe installed at the same time the long tubes went on, and the cats went off. Suffice it to say, this combination (with 3" B&B Tri-Flows) will pi$$ off a lot of your neighbors. :D
My B&B tri flow X pipe was on for 3 days before I pulled it and sold it. There is a distinct difference between loud and angry Vs loud and irritable. With out the X pipe my neighbors knew I was comming home. With the X pipe installed the entire neighborhood knew I was there. Not the best thing to have when driving past the local cop. Rear wheel horsepower gain was minimal.

This is a great question, I'd also like to know the answer. Anyone have any numbers (dyno or track) after they have installed an x-pipe in place of the H pipe?
I think another reason not alot of people use them is the price. Dr. Gas will sell you one for a nice chunk of change. I've heard of others going to a local shop to have one fabricated for ALOT less. If I use one, I'll have one fabricated.
I agree. i wasn't suggesting that. As I posted earlier, I have a stock 93 (no h-pipe) exhaust I'm gonna be modifying. I'm putting in an X, but it also has the muflers cut off already, so I can't do a direct comparison of the 2 systems... unless, I found stock mufflers and welded on. :smash: Too much effort...
I am going to try a X crossover as soon as I can with the stock mufflers then later try some 50 series flow masters , the NASCAR guys found out they get alot more mid range power from then.
The B&B X-pipe goes in place of the resonator on their system which does not have an H-pipe.
On a stock LT4 system I would replace the resonator with an X-pipe and leave the H-pipe alone. Next step would be to replace mufflers with eliminators. I don't know of anyone who has done this, but it would save about 30-40 pounds, would sound awesome, and I am sure it would make hp & torque. Just speculation though, wish someone would try it. The price would seem potentially attractrive.
I am running B&B with resonator & I added an H-pipe in same location as factor H-pipe. Sounds awesome but way too much resonance for road trips. No dyno data so who knows.
