I am assuming my 94 LT1 has 2.59 gears (was told it was all factory when bought).
I would like a lil more pep off the line, what gear would you recommend???
Would 3.31's be enough added pep to make it worth while to swap?
If so what all is entailed???? differential and ?????????
Im figuring 3.31's wouldnt kill my gas milelage to bad.
Im sure this wa posted before, but would like some fresh ideas. I am sure some have done this recently.
Thx before hand
3.54/3.73 are the gears that will really wake it up, but they dont help your hwy mileage. 3.31 might be a good compromise if you do alot of hwy driving.
Just finished the change from 2.59 to 3.31 in my '94. For me, absolutely the best choice. Second choice would be 3.07. The 3.54 & 3.73 gears are great choices for some but I don't think would work as well for me.
I'm very happy with the 3.31. Sometimes tough to make the wheels spin with 2.59 gears but with the 3.31s, I sometimes get wheel spin in the first 3 gears at WOT. The ASR just lights up!
If you have an opportunity to get some 3.31s go for it .... I looked for a good while before finding mine. Apparently they're no longer made.
I went from 2.59 to 3.45, it's the same as cruising in a six speed car in 5th gear. Not many people use 6th gear that much anyway.
It will make a big difference, but your MPG won't suffer as much if you drive normal.
I always check my mileage when driving I-20 to Atlanta & back. Using cruise control I normally averaged 25.5 with the 2.59s at a constant 70 mph. Last Sunday was the first time for the I-20 trip with the 3.31s ... mileage was 25.8 for the same trip/same mph. Go figure!
Hey Frank, when are you gonna come down & drive the Z? :D
