I'm not certain about C4s, but in the earlier cars there are 2 sequences of numbers on the block. One is the VIN derivative the other is the engine assy plant, date and the engine Hp/Tranny/Option combo. Scorp posted pictures of his stamp pad a while ago which you can compare to.

V probably means Flint engine plant
501 (sure it's not 0501)? could be the date - May 1st.
ZXD is proably the Hp/Tranny combo. If it's a 1996 car, ZXD Means 350 cuin/ 330 Hp LT-4 with Manual Transmission.

ZXD = 350ci, 330hp, manual transmission (LT4)

Are there numbers on a 1996 LT-4 that match the VIN? and if so where are they located?

Thanks :chevy

If it is like my L98 then it is probably up on the front of the engine block on a little pad towards the upper/right corner of the passenger cylinder head.
