Ok, in the tech tips section all it says for installing my ribbon is to follow the directions that came with it. Which were none that I could see. Does anybody have a procedure of how to install the ribbon. Do I have to thread it into the motor gears before I close up the motor, or can I just thread it into the top and turn it on? Please Help!! I really need a clue from someone with experience!
Hello, it's a pain in the Butt. I did mine last year. Have someone turn the radio off & on. You have to push the ribbom down until it catches and gets pulled in. May take several tries unless you get lucky. Keep trying and rotate the ribbon each try untill it catches in the gear. Let it go down as far as the motor pulls it, then what i did was push it the rest of theway by hand. Hold it in place and try it a couple of times before you lock it in place.

Re: Power Antenna Mast Install (wz2wj1)
I just changed out the whole antenna. Under $50 and less than two hours work. I needed an adaptor to match antenna ends and that was it. Any decent parts store carries aftermarket units.
Before you put the motor cover back on, make sure that all traces of ribbon fragments are gone. Then, put some vaseline in there. Then, put the cover back on. Mount it back in the car. Now turn the radio on. Put vaseline on the new ribbon. Turn the ribbon so that the teeth will face the gear in the motor housing (I think it was teeth to the left of the car). Feed the ribbon in as far as it will go. Have an assistant turn the radio off. The ribbon will feed in to the gear. Once the gear has caught the ribbon, you can push the mast in and tighten the nut. Work the radio power a few times and it should fully retract.

Re: Power Antenna Mast Install (Siveck)
I rigged mine back into the casing when I had it opened up. It's kinda tricky to get it coiled up and sandwich the case together without it springing out, but it works.
Whatever you do, don't try to force it in thinking you'll just force the motor to rotate. It drives the antenna mast gear with a worm gear.. so you can't make it turn by moving the antenna.. it'll just break. Dumb design IMO.
I'll dig up a pic of the casing and how the ribbon feeds into it if you still need to know.
What if you have a convertible.. Dont see how the mast would come off the hold down point..
My motor runs but the old mast goes nowhere till I grab it and pull it up but it wont stay.. I have a new mast and I would like to know how to put this sucker in.. ;)
