help! I'm trying to remove the distributor and I can't get this stupid connector disconnected. I'm afraid if I crank on it I'm going to break it. It looks like the white thing is supposed to pull out to allow the black parts to separate. Am I hosed if I just bust the white part off?
The white part is just a lock. I usually take the distributor cap & rotoroff and unplug the other end from the ignition module and leave that part alone.
p.s.
When you put the dist back in don't forget to use a new gasket. :)
Thanks,
I'm getting in way over my head. I'm going to replace the intake manifold gasket because I noticed antifreeze actually squirting out of the rear near the passenter corner
Before removing the dist, remove the cap, mark the position of the dist base on the intake base, mark the position of the dist rotor on the dist base, lift the dist till the rotor stops turning and again mark the position of the rotor on the dist base. Now you'll have little or no problem installing it correctly.
Be careful pulling the injector harness off the studs as the aged plastic tends to break easily. I found a pair of plyers works well to help work them off the studs. Once removed, I enlarge the holes slightly.
I'll be doing that soon as I just picked up the FelPro MS93118 upper/lower intake gasket set along with some black RTV and gasket sealer.
It's a tedious job but realy isn't difficult; take your time and label all parts for easy assembly.
