L98 heads and stuff...
I have been offered to buy a Corvette engine (I am not sure about what year) complete with heads and oil sump, intake manifold and runners. The crank and the bearings are broken. The price is good (for being in Sweden, $300). The pistons are forged 11:1 (brand?), but I am not planning to use them since I will build a stroker with 6.0” rods. I already have an empty 350 block (4-bolt 010 block, non-roller).
What I am interested in are mainly the heads and all the things that that are “outside” the engine, flywheel, oil sump, and casings. I would like to put my present engine in a sleeping bag so that I can put it back into the car in the future if I feel like it.
I am also planning on putting a Superram or Miniram on it; so I won’t need that extra intake manifold in the future perhaps I can sell it or use it with the Superram?
I think that buying this engine now will save me money later since I will be needing allot of stuff from it and I wouldn’t hesitate if it wasn’t for my bad economy at the moment.
What I am trying to do now am to convince myself that this is a good affair in the long run... :D
Main question is, can I use the L98 heads on a 383 with a SR or MR if I match port them? What will it cost to match port the L98 heads and is it worth it over buying new AFR heads (if I can get the L98 heads for $300)?
I hope I didn’t make you all confused (like I am).
Thanks in advance

Stock, these heads will flow to around 350hp and pocket ported and worked a little they will flow to over 400hp.
#1 - It is a roller block. All you'll need to do is get splayed caps for it when they are machining the rest of the block. As long as there are no cracks in the cylinders from the broken crank (should be fine....but you never know) then it will be a well-seasoned block and a good candidate for bore/stroke duties.
#2 - Sell the TPI stuff & heads to help finance the stroker project. You can get some good numbers from the stock D-ports, but you can also get the same or better from AFR or Brodix out of the box for what a good CNC milling operation will cost you.
#3 - Don't put the stock oil-pan on the car if you ever plan on going around corners hard. I did this and learned an expensive lesson....

Perhaps I can use the heads (stock) on my planned 383 at the beginning while I am saving up for AFR’s and then sell the heads?
