Default Power Steering

I had noticed a leak, when I got my car back from the shop on unrelated thing, Today when driving heard slight noise when turning the wheel. I checked the level of power steering fluid and it was pretty low. Any suggestions on were and what to look at myself or should I just take it back to the shop. I don't know if common problem, or what. Thanks Looking Brian

It's not uncommon for the reservoir to leak at the stubs where the hoses clamp on. I'd look there first.

I noticed this on mine the other day when I pulled the cover to reoil the disassembled engine. :(

Anybody know if RTV and power steering fluid get along? I might draing the tank, pop the hoses off, and smear some RTV on the stubs before re-attaching the hoses to see if it holds.

They get along just fine. The issue is going to be cleaning the plastic tank enough to get the RTV to stick to the tank.

I'll stick it in our sandblaster and rough it up quickly.

You would be better off to replace the hoses. If they are old, tightening them won't stop the leaks because the hoses are hard and brittle. The hoses can't be that expensive, why mess with the RTV?

I just went through the hose replacement problem on my 84. They **CAN** be expensive! Shop them at at The Last Detail. The two non-pressure hoses are $18 each and the pressure hose is $22. If you want to test your "pucker factor," call your local bow tie dealer and get a price! Have a stiff drink or two first!
