I have heard many bad things about 86 ECM's. It took me alot of calls to Diacom before I was able to scan it. Even so, after I scan the car and hit the escape key, about 5 trouble codes pop up. Always the same ones, never a problem with the car. One time I came accross a number of problems at once, and decided "thats it" and bought a new ECM from gm. (Actually it's a rebuilt AC Delco one) I later found that my MAF was burning out, and it was the cause of the problem. I still haven't put the new ECM in.
My question is this: Is the new ECM updated? What affect if any will it make?
Should I bother Installing it if the old one seems to be opperating my car fine, just screwing with the Diacom software.
When I link to Diacom, my idle goes up slightly. Also, the fuel rate and distance gauge readings screw up.
I'm just rambling here. Any feedback would be appreciated. :banghead:

You have 3 options for an 86. At the bottom of the scan screen, you have "Mode"
You then can choose "ALDL" or "Diagnostic" or "System Backup". I recommend against ever using system backup.
ALDL mode is likely going to set your idle at a fixed value and tweak your spark. It's been a while since I scanned in ALDL or Diagnostic modes. RTFM and I think it might tell you the difference in the modes, and it explains the phenomenon with the idle.
