my 85 makes a horrible "creaking/clanking" noise under the passenger fender when you go over bumps or over speed bumps slowly any kind of firm hard pressure that is placed on the front tires will make it make this sound. It sounds like something is loose. Anyone had any problems with this????

:iagree:
My 85 is also starting to do the same thing. Far as I have been told it's the bushings in the control arms, or sway bar, or both. Check into getting a bushing kit from someone like Mid America Designs or someone who you get your parts from. These kits are typically cheap. Just decide if you want stock rubber bushings, graphite bushings, or urethane bushings.

Sway bar bushings. I have the exact same creak/groan, and am getting ready to put new bushings in. Take the sway bar off, back the car out into the street and see if the noise goes away. Bet it does.

:withstupid: Same thing with my '85 and its those old rubber bushings. I hear it so much around here (horrible roads) that I won't be phased when I finally put in the poly bushings and they start making noise. :D

Get all the bushings replaced. It'll make an unbelievable difference in your handling.
Poly or Graphite will both start to make that old sound after about a year. I just learned to live with it and grin around corners.
Re: suspension noise when going over bumps (John Row)
When you say "a kit" what do you mean? I looked at the corvette forum mall and saw the sway arm bushings and it had the different sizes. from like 22-30 mm. I've only had my vette about a year and am still learing alot. What is the best type to get? poly or graphite or rubber? What are the differences in size and which is the best to get? just let me know what you'd do!!!
Thank you guys for all of your help!!!!!!!!
Re: suspension noise when going over bumps (eric_daniel)
It could be any of the things previously mentioned, but when I had the problem with my 84 it was the front spring. The previous owner had let a oil leak go so long it deteriorated the rubber mounting block.
I hope it's your sway bar bushings :D

Re: suspension noise when going over bumps (Iroc)
Mine never squeaked until I lowered it.
My synopsis is that it's now riding on a different part of the control arm bushings, and they've come unseated and slide around.
If you guys say the poly squeaks after a year, I'd be inclined to go with rubber instead. Cheaper, and goes longer without squeaking, despite cracking sooner and not being as stiff. :yesnod:
Re: suspension noise when going over bumps (VetteNoob)
I have the PST's in both the front and back of mine for about 4 years now. They squeak going over speed bumps when it is cold outside. Around 35-40 degrees. Other wise they are fine. The front sway bar has fittings on them. I bought the black type.

I just had a shock absorber squeeze it's lower mount rubber bushing out of place yesterday...and it made a knock clank over bumps too...so look for that as well.
