Hi Guys'
I'm replacing my stock coil on my 92 LT-1. I took off the old one and a few question came up. One, my coil is riveted to a bracket. When I receive my new coil, will the bracket come with it? And two, there is an electrical device also attached to this same bracket that has a 4 pin connector plug and it sits on a heat sink. What is it?

Thanks Konroh,
I just finished reading about the ignition coil module. I guess the electrical device is called the ignition coil driver. I wonder if you should replace it when you replace the coil? At least it is easy to get at.
Thanks again. :auto:
I just did mine last month. You need to drill out the rivets and use nuts and bolts to install the new one. Don't wipe off the old white grease on the bracket as it is a barrier against heat and be sure to use the new grease supplied. Also, you might as well replace the coil driver since you are into it that far. Jeff Koop has good prices on OEM parts. Good luck. Oh yea, be sure to disconnect the battery before starting the project or you will get an unwanted suprise. :jester
I wouldn't replace the ignition module unless you need to, simmply due to cost. It's around $80-90 from Jeff Kopp. I guess you could swap it for piece of mind.
A dremel works faster than a drill when cutting the rivets. The new coil will come with nuts and bolts.
Mine is a 92 also. I replaced the coil and the driver since the car is 11 yrs old (and I was into that area anyway). I considered it cheap insurance. Not a hard job just take your time.
I have the whole coil assembly in my hand. Where does the insulating grease go? I haven't got the MSD coil yet, I guess they're popular as it's on back order :cuss

The white stuff is heatsink compound and its job is to conduct heat, not insulate against it.

The grease goes between the module and its heatsink. It may also go between the heatsink and the coil bracket...can't remember.
