Default Governor Removal

I'm ready to have a few swags at the shift points on my Raptor 700R4.
My handy dandy weight and spring kit will be delivered by the big brown truck this afternoon.

Will the governor come out or am I going to have to cut a hole in the floor? :cry :cry
I'll cry more if I have to drop this heavy mama just to adjust the shifty points as I'm SURE I won't get it right the first few times.

Anybody??

BTW: This is on my 91 Vette.

It should be accessible from underneath. No holes.

On the driver of the tranny, there is a round cover about 5" dia. It pries off and the governor is inside of that cover. No drilling necessary. Then pull out the governor, do what you need to, replace the governor, replace the cover (use some 3M adhesive/RTV? to make sure the cap doesnt come off), test.

That was the abbreviated version of how to do that.

Note: I am not a trained transmission specialist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once.

BTW, it took my tranny guy all of 10 minutes to replace my governor (not including time it took to get the vette in the air).

The governor is accessed from under the car. Look by the tailshaft on the drivers side.

Pop the cover off with a screwdriver.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input.
I know where it's located. It just doesn't look like it will come out before it hits the side of the transmission tunnel.

I've got the shift modifier kit. (assortment of springs and weights).
Just thought I'd check with you more experienced Vette owners before I got in a battle with it.

So the consensus is it WILL clear the tranny tunnel?

Yep, it'll clear no problem-just plan on a day or so playin' with different wgt/spring combo's to get it where you want it........
