Default STARTER WIRE QUESTION

starter has three terminals. I know what hooks up to the big one but I forgot if the smaller wire goes to the smaller connection on the terminal facing the engine block or the one facing the other direction.

The starter motor only has two electrical connections. A large bolt which the battery cable connects to and and a smaller bolt that the starter solenoid wire connects to.

You may have a starter that has three posts: large post for the batt. , ignition terminal switch, and a starter motor strap. The post should be of unequal sizes to aid in reinstalling the wires.

If it has three, connect your small wire to the stud marked "S" on the solenoid. I think this is the bigger of the two. The other small terminal is a vestage from the "olden days" (points) when the resister wire to the coil was bypassed to provide a full 12 volts to the ignition during cranking, and therefore a slightly hotter spark during cranking. Good luck, and...
