Seat Track "Rocking"
Friends on the Forum:
I have developed a "rocking motion" on my driver's seat, and it appears as though the front bar which spans the tracks is moving up and down imparting this rocking motion to the seat. The motion is probably something like 3/8". In contrast, the passenger seat is solid. These are sports seats in a 96 LT4 CE. Is this going to require replacing the track or is there a rebuild or trick to tightening the seat track?.
Anybody with any thoughts or advice on this? As always, much appreciated

The track bushings are worn. A rebuild is in order. You can swap them with Corvette Central, Mid-America, Ecklers, or Zip for 150 to 200 dollars.

Re: Seat Track "Rocking" (65Z01)
The seat-to-track bolts are a good place to start so are the bushings but its probably not the problem. The problem is usually the hole in the seattrack frame where the bushing is pressed into. This hole gets elongated and the bushing moves within the hole. This is the cause of rocking chair effect. To fix mine (which oddly enough happened at relatively low miles hmmm) I just opened the hole more and fabricated a bushing for the bushing. Not the best feat of engineering but definitely did the trick. works fine and no rock. :smash:

Re: Seat Track "Rocking" (Tom Mieczkowski)
As usual a lot of good ideas and commentary from everyone. I went ahead and ordered a rebuilt track from Eckler's today ($200), Zip has them advertised for $170 but no stock. Everyone else is at $200.
I think it is an elongation of the bushing seats and general stress on the seat. I'm not a big guy, but based on the wear patterns on the car I think the guy who had this car before was a big guy. When I bought it at Roger's they replaced the passenger side track because it sounded pretty wacked although it did operate (sounded like it was chewing threw metal). So, time is probably up on this one. I checked out the replacement and it looks like a 30 minute job.
Thanks, guys, as always. The forum is a great place.
