This guy with an 88 C4 convertible. Hes says the 4x3 high low transmission.Please help...he says it very rare..

Not rare.
Its a 4 speed manual with a 3 speed overdrive unit attached. Giving you 7 gears to use. Kinda tricky to learn it, IMO.

yea, i think it was atleast used from 84 to 90 or so.. lots of cars had it. dont believe its anything but common.
or maybe hes got his car doing 3 wheel drive... :D

4+3 was offered from 84-88.
In 89 they introduced the 6 speed.

Its a Muncie Super T-10 4 speed manual transmission with a Borg Warner TWO speed overdrive unit (automatic tranny, like powerglide). The computer is set to allow the OD to be turned on in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear (thats where the +3 comes in). The main transmission has a 4th gear of 1:1. The OD has 1:1 in off mode, and .67: or .63: (depending on the model, not sure what specified which you got) with it turned ON.
It was designed/used for emissions and economy reasons. Personally, I LOVE this transmission... the 4 speed is geared nicely, and using the OD in 4th makes it freewayable.
It takes a bit to get used to and sometimes a bit to understand.
Enough rambling for me, its bedtime :D
Oh yeah... used 84-88, not rare, but autos are more common...

0.60 ratio for all others.
