when plugged in will this scanner tell me what sensor or sensors are bad straight out or just show parameters for each & then take more time to check these parameters in shop manual( also has to be bought)lookin for somethin simple to use, Ive seen it on sale for $350w/a free multimeter??
I believe that unit is similar to my old AutoXray with download capability too.
Mine has two modes, 1) scan, 2) monitor.
1) scan: takes a snapshot of all parameters as well as all trouble codes
2) monitor: captures all sensor readings over about 20sec to provide information under varying engine conditions.
The trouble codes tell you which sensor is causing the code and the manual gives some explanation.
The sensor data provides further insight into what the ECM is seeing and helps in trouble shooting.
It is a great tool for trouble shooting; check it out at the Auto Xray site.
If your car is an 88 all you need is the XP240. It's a scanner and will give you trouble codes. You can get them used on e-bay for around $100 bucks.
I just sent my old one in for the ez-link pro upgrade that does all cars. You need to go to their web site and also check out e-bay. I saw an XP240 with the gm ford and chrysler cables go for a little over 100 used.
ps I also use diacom and autotap. Depending on what you want to do will depend on which product is best for your situation.
