Default Here is where I am.....

Guys,

Thought I would give you one last update, before the "big" day.

Today Dad and I spent the afternoon/night getting things finalized for tomorrows startup.

The main bulk of the work was on wiring etc. I had to get my WB02 all wired up, tranny temp guage, etc. Sounds like an easy job, but I wanted to do it right and it took quite a bit of time. We also did a lot of other things, like make a back for the tranny guage (they just leave it open and it looks like crap). Dad was camera happy so you have some pictures to look at. Here they are. we took some pictures of the C-beam for those interested, the knock sensor, the inside of the car (nevermind the underside of the dash, I wasn't done getting the wiring done. Note the WB02 digital display in the location of the stock tach :yesnod: Also there are some pictures of the WB02's circuit board itsself.

Oh yeah I have a pretty cool story about my oil filter that remember in another post would not fit due to the oil cooler/moroso kicked out pan....anyways I went to several parts stores here, I explained the situation to each of the guy employees at each store. Basically what I needed was a short 350 oil filter. After explaining this to each of the guys and wasting about 1.5 hours just to get a supid look from each I head into Autozone to pick up oil and some other items, not to mention the oil filter. The place was like grand central station. I almost just got the stuff I needed and was just gonna forget the painful explaining of what oil filter I needed. There were 3 guys and 1 gal working, as things unfolded I saw I was gonna get the chick. I thought forget even explaining this to her as I walked to the counter. As I approached I thought, well it can't hurt to ask. So I preceded to explain to her the setup. She looked at me and says, "Oh, you need AC delco part number blahh, blahh, blahh"  I about fell over, but figured when she got it, it would be just a regular 350's. So she and I walked over to get the right one. She walked right to it, pulled it down, opened it up and said, "yep this one will work, its x amount shorter than your standard filter with a y thread" :skep:  I was totally speechless

As I checked out, she said nicely, you gonna give me a ride in that thing when you done?

If I wasn't married she would be a keeper for sure, not too bad looking either. :p:

Here are the pictures, more to follow in the days coming!

The oil filter in question:

Tranny temp sensor, might have a problem with heat from the headers, I might have to make a heat shield. Guess we'll see.

A little polished Front A-Arm...Guess I was bored :eyeroll:

There is a little sneek peek under the plastic wrap...

The WB's circuit board with the cluster of wires that go to the sensor, and two that are the + and - for power.

Couple shots of the cockpit. Gotta get that cage installed! There you can see were I have the Wb's digital display mounted, right in line with the tach for reference, but there is also software that attaches to it for logging.

The case I made for the WB so it doesn't short out, when stuffed up under the dash.

A shot of the backside of the tranny temp guage. Dad made the back of it while there at the dealership. If you look close at it, he made it out of a mud flap. Looks great. Those are not yellow wires, its a reflection from the overhead lights.

Not too sure why we took this but its the filler plug for the rear.

Driveshaft not yet hooked up.

Vigilante 3200 Torque converter....Why did they ever choose that color?

Knock sensor picture.

Gus this is for you. Notice the cleanance I needed to message into the header to keep it from causing false knock. Everyone with headers should do a search for contact points. I had several, this was the worst.

Talk to you all after tomorrows startup!

I take it you aren't letting the intake gasket sit 24 hours before startup. :D

Ahhh no need for that, were its gonna go? There are several bolts holding it in place not to mention x ft/lbs of torque. After we get the solid lifters set, everything buttoned up, etc. There will plenty of cure time :D

Mojo. I was so caught off guard I wasn't thinking clearly sorry next time I will keep you in mind.

Wow, looks very nice you do great work. I'm jealous of your lift!

I'd like to know how that wide-band 02 sensor/display works out...

That looks quite good!

I am definitely anxious to see it and hear it run at the track. It will go as good as it looks I am certain.

What's the lowdown on that wide band oxygen sensor? What kind of readings does it give, and how will it help you with tuning? I love new gadgets, and I've never seen one of these before. Fiigure it might be a neat addition. I just need to figure out exactly how it works, and the benefits of having one!

You dont have a shield over your knock sensor anymore?

That fit looks pretty tight, but with a lift in your house....its not so hard to make room!! I very rarely have access to one. Your garage rules dude. I would put a shower, sofa, fridge, tv etc in there and never leave!!!

Here is the scoop on the Wb02 sensor.

The stock O2 is nothing more than a switch. The voltage toggles over 450mv with a lean or rich mixture. So basically the car when in closed loop trys to get the 450mv reading, but because things change so much, air demand, injectors pulse width, etc the computer can not maintain a perfect 14.7 AFR, but rather the voltage bounces from above 450mv to below rather quickly. When taking the average of these numbers, you will get ~450mv or 14.7 AFR. With that being said, the sensor itself is NOT all that accurate, due to the fact that it uses an average, rather than a specific voltage to correlate to AFR's.

The WB on the other hand uses a builtin calibration resistor and the seen above circuit board to give you an EXACT AFR for the car. This AFR is then displayed on the digital readout or logged on a computer for tuning purposes. Basically when I am going down the road under "cruise" conditions the AFR is ~14.5-14.8AFR, when I hit the gas you can see the AFR jump alittle then at WOT the AFR goes to the desired prom set AFR I have. The end result is basically being able to reap the benifits of tuning on a dyno's WB, but in this case you are actually under real life conditions.

The total unit was ~500 dollars. With the cable ect made by me, and the sensor was 150 dollars of the above price. Its a lot if your not gonna be tuning and just want to see numbers flashing.

Thanks for all the other comments guys.

The details of Sundays startup will be posted when I get the pictures from my dad. ;) :D
