A few weeks ago, a guy was saying he wanted to do this. Do a search in the archives for member EduardoL98. I never followed up to see if he did it. Drop him a line. Anyway, I think you might stand to break even or even loose slightly some power. The EGR cools the combustion and that inhibits knock. No EGR may elevate the combustion temp and cause knock. The computer will pull time to offset that. Also note that EGR is not used upon start up, idle, or WOT.
Unless you datalog/tune/burn without egr from the gitgo.
Before disconnecting the EGR pull the electrical connection or pull/plug the vacuum line and make some passes down the 1/4mi to see if there is any power gain.
When we took the heads of the last time, I made an aluminum plate that fit over the hole and plugged the line. No problems other than I had to buy shorter bolts because my plate was thinner than the base of the EGR.
I haven't had a functional EGR on my 85 ever since two years ago when I put aftermarket heads on that had no EGR passage. I was going to use the EGR pipe that later model 86+ Vettes use that runs from the intake manifold to the header, but couldn't locate a source for one. My car dosen't set code 32, or have abnormal knock counts. Must be living right I guess.
Thanks everyone. my mechanic/friend suggested this. I just did a full tune and went ahead and tried it. Not settiong any codes, or getting excessive knock so far. He did explain the reheating with the exaust, and also pointed out that the air being reinjected into the cylinder contained No O2, only CO2. We were talking about power loss and gas milage.
