1985 4+3 - Having problems shifting
Having a problem with a 1985 4+3 manual transmission car. The car will not shift into 2nd gear. I can feel it engage 1st, 3rd and 4th, drives in 1st, 3rd, and 4th, but in the 2nd gear gate it is not going into gear (shifter does throw into 2nd). Also, the trans will shift into reverse, but engine stalls abruptly as soon as you let out the clutch. Car has 90K miles, believed to be original clutch, and is totally stock. What do you guys think it is? Trans? Shift linkage? What should I look for? Thanks.

The shifter will go into the 2nd gear gate, but I cannot feel the trans engage 2nd gear. Although the clutch is getting weak, the hydraulics and disc seem to be working OK.
