I would say the best approach would be to use a 94 base distributor with a 95/96 distributor cap so you can vent it. Go to http://www.corvetteclinicinc.com and look at C-4 solutions.
Strick :yesnod:
Can I get a optispark for a 96 and put it on my 94?
to do it right you need a new cam, but minimum you need a timing cover, the upper timing gear, and a longer dowel pin for the cam. On mine, i kept the old cam, but i had to grind the pin on the back of the opti, so that it could mount flush to the cam. I don't know how long this will last though, so i may be going back in for a cam swap and another new opti before i would really like to be.
If you do either of these, then be sure to do a good job of sealing the base to the cap and round the electrical connection with some hi-temp RTV.
A more expensive and much better alternative would be to get the Dynaspark from DynoTech. They should have the early version ready either now or very soon. www.dynotech-eng.com/dynaspark.htm
The neatest solution without tearing into your motor with major mods is to:
-install new early style GM distributor ($300) with later purge-style cap ($150) and modify base for purge line. Total cost $450.
-install new Dynotech unit complete with purge cap and base. Costs a little more, but not base mods are necessary for purge line and it has all the design weaknesses addressed such as the incredible shrinking foam around the control wiring that let's water pour in after 3-5 years.
If you do either of these, then be sure to do a good job of sealing the base to the cap and round the electrical connection with some hi-temp RTV.
I never thought of this. How about putting a complete bead of high temp RTV around the entire cap/base? Or is this what you meant? Sounds like a good idea to me. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
