1995 LT1 with heavy duty brakes. Which pads should I use. I've been told that the ceramic pads just don't have the heat rating of the carbon metallic, that the ceramic lose some of their material on the rotor when they get hot. I'm told that the buildup of ceramic on the rotor can cause a warped rotor sensation.
suggestions?
thanks,

I've been running NAPA Ceramix now for about two years(maybe a little longer), That's about 40,000 miles on them. Only now am I starting to doubt how good they are. NAPA themselves claim that the ceramic pads will wear out the rotor faster.
I just noticed that I'm not getting full contact with my pads, so I'm going to pull them and try out a different one.
I'm looking at EBC Greenstuff, I've heard good things about them.
I just put "green stuffs" on my 92.I think they are great. They do produce dust but its gray not black, and not much of it.I would recommend them! :steering:
Hawk HPs from Vette Brakes and Parts. Great grab, but they do squeal a little at slow speed. I'm ready to try a little disc quiet on mine this week. No complaints on the braking capacity however, and dusting is not too bad. :yesnod:
I have the same problem with the Wagner Ceramics I installed a few months ago. The contact patch doesn't use the whole rotor 13". In fact I have been looking to see if I had installed the wrong pads (12" rotor), but Wagner only list one part number.
Is it just me,,,, or shouldn't there be a different part number for the larger rotors?
Same pads. The difference is in the calipers (a bit more robust) and the size of the rotors aids in cooling.
I've been running EBC Greenstuff pads for over a year now (~18K miles). They do dust, but it cleans up very easily. I never did an objective stop test to be able to say they work any better than stock. They did wear out on the rears at around 16K miles, I didn't hear any squeals from the tell tales so my first indication that they were gone was the metal to metal grind.
One problem I had was disk warping (or depositing) that causes a surging feel under light braking. It started after a particularly agressive stop (140mph->50mph) when the V1 went off (CHP was going the other direction).
I've got the hawk pads, They have great stopping capabilities but squeak like he!! when in stop and go traffic. I've applied some white grease and it did minimize it a bit but never eliminated it. I won't get them again.

Yeah, that's my experience with the Hawks. I loke the grabbing capability but they do make noise at slow speed.
I'm going to pull my fronts off tomorrow and try some disc quiet on them - also replacing the pins - someone said that helps cut down the noise. Any other suggestions from anyone on noise reduction? Are there any shims available to put behind the pads?
