ABS sensor replacement
How can you tell which one is bad when Anti Lock light comes on?
Are they interchangeable or are they individual sensors ( i.e. front right, left rear etc. )
Another way to find out if the wheel speed sensors are working (if there are no codes) is with the Vetronix Tech-1A scanner http://www.vetronix.com/diagnostics/tech1a/index.html with the "chassis" cartridge installed. With it, you can view the speed of all four wheels independently -- by looking at the speed of all four wheels along with the speed from the speedometer you can determine a faulty wheel speed sensor -- when driving down a straight road, all five readings should be the same.

The early 86-89 ABS systems did not have codes. It either works or it senses a fault and turns on the ABS light on the dash. I know, because I bought the official GM Kent-Moore ABS tester for 86-89 Corvettes as well as a used copy of the GM Corvette ABS Training video and tested my car myself after 3 dealers couldn't figure out what was wrong with my 88 ABS. I also checked this with Gordon Killebrew personally.
Even a Tech-1 cannot test the early 86-89 ABS for codes because the ABS controller doesn't hook up to a Body & Chassis controller. Some 90s and I believe all of the 91 & later versions of ABS have codes and can be scanned that way, but not 86-89.
Joseph P, if you will search the archives you will find several threads where I have posted extensive steps to use in checking for sensor and controller problems on the 86-89 ABS systems. Look for ABS and my forum id.
If you don't find the threads, feel free to email me directly and I'll be glad to send you a small write-up with static and dynamic checks you can use to troubleshoot your 89 ABS system.
