(86 stock vette, automatic transmission with 145,000 miles) I have a small transmission fluid leak - approximately three tablespoons of fluid on the garage floor when it sat in the garage for three weeks strait thanks to the %*&$$ snow in DC.
I took it into my mechanic who couldn't find where the leak was coming from. He suggested steam cleaning the under-carriage, driving it for a few weeks and then checking again.
It shifts fine and I haven't head any noises.
Question - should I wait until it gets worse, or should I aggressively look for the problem?

Re: transmission fluid leak (lfmn16)
Keep an eye on your fluid level. That sounds like a relatively big leak. If I were you, I'd get the underside cleaned up. It sounds like its been leaking for awhile and has gunked up the underside, which means you might be low on fluid. Last I checked, the ATF level should be checked immidiately after driving the car (unlike motor oil).
The leak shouldn't cause any problems except for burning on the exhaust and staining your driveway. But fixing it may be as simple as resealing a fitting or the pan.. small price to pay to save you a hassle.
I think I have had that small leak for over 3 years. Even had the gasket changed. I just put kitty litter down and keep checking the level of the fluid.
The steam cleaning idea sounds good.
