Default 406 cooling question

My 85 has the Heavy Duty cooling option (V08) which is two fans, one to pull air and one in the front of the radiator to push.

Anyone with a 406 running found that this set up wil lhandle the 406 heat issue or possibly use both fans at once or is it necessary?

I am about to buy the Flow Kooler water pump and wonder if my stock radiator will handle the 406 heat with two fans!?

Any experiences, thoughts?

I have a 415 in my 86 and it tends to try to run pretty warm down here in Houston. I have an aftermarket all aluminum radiator, Flow Kooler water pump and went to the Spal dual puller fans and have the pusher fan in front of the radiator too. Remember the more horsepower you try to make the hotter the engine is going to try to run.

I think you will be fine, provided long traffic waits are not in your plan. Mine runs no hotter than the 350 did, and corkvette1 ran his for quite some time in the past with his setup. Surely though, an aftermarket b cool or something is gonna perform better. I would try it without, then upgrade if necessary.

Thanks Jesse, I plan on leaving it stock and playing with the fans. I want to get the motor in and working along with the new 165 ECM first then I can address those issues.

Congrats again on the new motor!

Horsepower should add no heating problems as long as you run the same cooling configuration of the stock engine that was replaced.
